2011 was quite a year! Real estate in the Hudson Valley region has been recovering, albeit slowly, and we've kept our finger on the pulse. Events in New York State and around the world focused our attention on key issues and how they relate on a local level. All the while we've been blogging...

...so without further ado, here are the best Ulster County real estate blogs of 2011!

The Love Affair Continues - The New York Times & Ulster County Real Estate

nytimes_logo_400_01

Without a doubt our best and most popular post in 2011! With over 40,000 views, this post addressed the tight relationship the New York Times has with Ulster County, NY real estate. Whether it's Woodstock, New Paltz, Rosendale, Marbletown, or Saugerties, the New York Times has pretty much covered all popular areas in Ulster County, NY. But as any local will tell you, you don't need the NY Times to know how great it is to live in the Hudson Valley!

Taft Street Movie Review: Gasland - A Thought-Provoking Film With An Alarming Local Connection

ulster-county-gas-land

This blog reviewed the critically acclaimed film Gasland of which a free screening was being offered in Accord, NY. The documentary takes a look at the controversial technique known as "Hydro-Fracking" and its potential hazards. The film was an eye-opener and we thought it was worth blogging about to get a discussion going.

Taft Street Realty - Local, Social, Mobile!

Smartphone

Our "Local, Social, Mobile" post was a personal favorite.  We here at Taft Street pride ourselves on helping, not selling.  We are the most accessible brokerage around and have a great pulse on the local markets.  We are always on the go and in the field seeing homes and working with buyers and sellers.  Our team focuses only on Ulster County.  Our local knowledge and expertise have us positioned as the go to experts for Ulster County Real Estate information.  We are not trying to be all things to all people in all areas in the Hudson Valley.  We love the Hudson Valley region but Ulster County is where we call "home"!

Rosendale & "The New York Times" - A Look at the Relationship Between A Small Upstate Town & A Big City Newspaper

roos_arts_rosendale

Ahhh Rosendale, NY!  So many cool things to say about the popular village.  And the NY Times seems to agree. This blog explores the appeal that this former cement town has for the New York Times. The quirky culture and great dining make Rosendale an Ulster County, NY hot spot!

As Same-Sex Marriage Vote Looms, Ulster County Holds Its Breath

Same Saex Marriage

A hot topic for NY State in 2011, same sex marriage equality brought NY into the 21st century. Our very own New Paltz, NY played a role, becoming one of the very first towns in the country to start performing same sex marriages. It's this progressive and "live and let live" attitude that contributes to the demand of New Paltz, NY homes for sale.

The Rosendale Street Festival - The 2011 Taft Street Festival Guide

Rosendale Street Festival

There is no doubt that Rosendale, NY puts on the best events in the county.  The annual Rosendale Street Festival always delivers and comes packed with 3 days of killer entertainment.  In this post we talked about the mind blowing number of bands that performed, the great vendors who served the gatherers, and prepared all of us for what we at Team Taft Street knew would be the best festival to date.

Big Ups to Brooklyn!!

brooklyn_bridge_new_york_city

The Main Street Series - Woodstock: Still Groovin' After 42 Years

woodstock5

Woodstock, NY is probably the smallest big name town in America.  We are proud to be able to sell Woodstock NY homes for sale and enjoy everything that the town brings to the area.  There is no shortage of diversity in Woodstock, NY, as this blog demonstrates with a stroll down Main Street!

Ulster County Set To Tango With Irene

irene

We did not know what damage Irene would bring to the Hudson Valley, but we did prepare for an upstate NY disaster!  As we wrote this post we prayed that the Ulster County, NY would be spared.  But in the end, we were not.  The devastation from Hurricane Irene is still visible and many in the area are still recovering even to this day.  By far one of, if not the worst, disaster Ulster County, NY has ever faced.  But as always, the community came together and record amounts of donations and help came pouring in.  Just an example of how tight this county is.  One of the larger counties in NY State, Ulster has a reputation for being prepared during all seasons and most everyone hoped for the best, but also planned for the worst.  Bridges were washed away, many homes destroyed.  Power out for long periods of time, and the cleanup seemingly never ending.  Our team here at Taft Street Realty has made it a priority to keep the public informed of all Ulster County, NY Happenings whether real estate related or not.

The Main Street Series - Saugerties: One of America's Coolest Towns Celebrates 200 Years

saugerties_welcomes_you

Here in this post we celebrated the 200 year birthday of Saugerties, NY.  Many locally know that Saugerties is one of the "coolest small towns in America" and so we of course spread that belief to others.  Saugerties is rich in history and, like Rosendale NY, offers some of the best events and yearly festivals around the Hudson Valley.  If you like garlic or horses, if you like great restaurants and real sense of community, then definitely read this blog post!

....and these were just a few of the blogs we wrote in 2011! We look forward to 2012, the blogs it will bring, and another great year in Ulster County, NY real estate!
