5 Very Popular Areas In Ulster County, NY

Whether you are looking in "Upstate" NY, the "Catskills", or even the "Hudson Valley", the common question pops up, "Where does one area begin and another end?" Some buyers begin with a broad search of Hudson Valley homes for sale, while others know the specific county they want to be in. There are even times where the buyer already knows specifically which town or area they like most. Homes for sale in Ulster County, NY have always been very desirable to buyers. Although surrounding counties are nice, Ulster County Real Estate, in my opinion, is extra special. In no particular order, I decided to highlight 5 really cool and very popular areas within Ulster County, NY. Each of these hot spots in Ulster County, NY offer something of value and are extremely unique in their own way.

Woodstock, NY

Many people have heard of Woodstock, NY but few really know what the town is all about. Although relatively small in size, its reputation is huge. That's just one reason why Woodstock, NY homes for sale tend to be more popular that other towns. Whether its the music or arts culture, the dramatic mountain vistas, or even the cool people, the draw here is undeniable. Real Estate in Woodstock, NY varies in just about every way. Sometimes you can find a home for sale under 200k, but most Woodstock, NY homes tend to fall in the 250k-500k range. But don't worry, if you are looking for luxury Woodstock, NY real estate, the inventory is plentiful these days. Many homes that were once priced above $1M are now finding themselves in the 800k and 900k ranges. Because Woodstock NY homes hold their value more so relative to other Ulster County towns, many buyers find comfort living there. But if you are looking for a little more value, maybe consider buying just on the outskirts of Woodstock, maybe in other popular areas like Olive, West Hurley and Shandaken, in the town of Kingston.

New Paltz, NY

The gateway to Ulster County,NY, New Paltz, NY has always been one of the most popular locations in the Hudson Valley. For starters, how 'bout that view of Mohonk? I mean, as soon as you get off I-87 exit 18 and turn onto "Main Street" you can't help but notice the majesty of the Shawangunk Mountain Range. Popular among many college students, New Paltz, NY offers one of the best SUNY schools in NY. Homes for sale in New Paltz, NY are very desirable to buyers from NYC and general tri-state area. Just roughly 90 minutes from Manhattan, New Paltz, NY real estate is seemingly only a quick afternoon or morning drive away from the concrete jungle of NY. The convenience to mass transit make New Paltz, NY a destination of choice for those who commute to work in other areas. Taxes are much lower than in other counties south like Putnam, Rockland, and Westchester. So convenience, value, and pure beauty make New Paltz, NY homes for sale very attractive to buyers. Again, once can find (with patience) a home for under 200k if they're lucky to catch one come on the market, but most homes in the area range from 250k up to and over $1M.

Saugerties, NY

Up in northern Ulster County, NY and neighboring Woodstock, NY, Saugerties, NY is one of the coolest small towns in America. Saugerties, NY has become yet another major hotspot in the Hudson Valley. As you get off NYS Thruway exit 20 you can't help but notice the Catskill Mountains staring down at you. Saugerties, NY is home to many festivals, many of which are nationally known and recognized. The local pride in Saugerties, NY is very evident. Whether its the Hudson Valley Garlic Festival, H.I.T.S. (Horses in the Sun) shows, local fireworks displays, craft fairs, farmers markets, or even antiques, there is no shortage of fun things to do here. The Saugerties, NY Real Estate market definitely commands a premium. With the Catskills to the north and west, and the Hudson River to the east, Saugerties, NY homes for sale are still moving pretty quickly. Saugerties, NY is also very historic. Buyers searching for old farmhomes, or stone houses should consider looking here. And although 1994 isn't really historic, the Woodstock Music Festival 25th Anniversary event held here in Saugerties, NY was something many will never forget

Rosendale, NY

As we wrote recently in, "Big Ups to Brooklyn", Rosendale, NY has become one of the more 'undiscovered' and undervalued locales in Ulster County,NY. A trendy area for artists and other free sprits, this small town does big things. Where do I begin? Seasonally, Rosendale, NY puts on some of the best festivals and parties in the Hudson Valley. In the summer, around the end of July there is the famous Rosendale Street Festival. A block party if I've ever seen one In the fall, you can experience pickles like you've never experienced before. The International Pickle Fesitval in November is the pride of Rosendale, NY and last year attracted over 5,000 from all over the globe. Come December, there is "Frozendale". This is their annual celebration to garner support for all the local businesses on Main Street. Even though a relatively short Main Street, Rosendale's is jam packed with businesses ranging from various restaurants, art galleries, bicycle shop, cheese store, craft stores, clothing boutiques, and even a local and historic movie theatre. If you are lucky enough to live in or close to Rosendale, NY you know how tight the local towns people are. Rosendale, NY real estate for sale is a mixed bag. Due to its small stature, there are a limited number of homes available. But don't worry, there are good values here and Team Taft Street has you covered. We know this town inside and out and can help you find something special you can call home

Kingston, NY

This list of popular areas wouldn't be complete without Kingston, NY. As the former capital of NY State, this place is the definition of historic. Burned by the Brittish in 1777, some 235 years ago, Kingston, NY has since carved out a real name for itself. Whether its historic uptown or downtown where the Rondout Creek enters the Hudson, Kingston, NY is Ulster County's "city" Kingston, NY is one of the most pedestrian friendly hotspots in Ulster County, NY. Homes for sale in Kingston, NY are plentiful. They range from the low 100k range and go up from there. A top 10 place to live for artists, according to Business Week, Kingston, NY has become very affordable since the market downturn in early 2008. The area also offers very good low income housing and a starting point for many first time buyers. If you want a little hustle and bustle, but still desire that "country" feeling, then Kingston, NY real estate may be for you

Soup & Sandwich Shop Review: "The Last Bite" In High Falls, NY

If you're out and about running errands on a cold November morning, few things offer more comfort than a hot cup of fresh coffee and maybe a warm bagel or roll. Such were my thoughts recently as I shuffled into The Last Bite in High Falls, NY. It was an early, cold, and so far coffee-less morning, so I was in need of some quality nourishment. I'm always looking for great local spots to eat in the Hudson Valley, and I had heard good things about The Last Bite. I stepped up to the old-time storefront, with an aged hanging sign swinging in the wind, reminiscent of an era long past.

Fresh Food On Main Street High Falls, NY

As soon as I opened the door my senses perked, as I smelled the aroma of coffee brewing and eggs cooking. The small shop consisted of a few tables by the large front windows looking out onto Main Street High Falls, NY. There were shelves and counters stocked with baked goods and fresh treats. Clever & Quirky, hand-written signs guided you to the coffee station (my 1st stop) and the "Sandwich Slayers" sandwich bar, where specialty sandwiches, Paninis, and make-your-own sandwiches are available. Since it was the morning I ordered a bacon, egg & cheese sandwich on a bagel and sipped my coffee as I heard my eggs sizzling in the background. The Last Bite offers a range of delicious, home-cooked food. They're very vegetarian friendly, every specialty sandwich has a vegetarian version; there are delicious vegetarian wraps & soups, and the classic "Fakin Bacon" for breakfast. My egg sandwich (non-vegetarian) was cooked just right, and the toasted bagel it was made on was fresh, tasty, and huge The coffee was dark & rich and they offer other hot beverages such as espressos, lattes, and cappuccinos. A juice bar completes the picture with a daily variety of fresh fruits and veggies to choose from.

An Eatery That Fits Right In To The Hudson Valley

The Last Bite fits right into High Falls, NY, which is known for its delightfully unique eateries and the historic buildings that house many of them. The old-fashioned feel of the shop coupled with creative menu & hip vibe created a great environment to enjoy a nice home-cooked meal. The prices are very reasonable and the staff was friendly and helpful. If you live in Ulster County, NY and are looking for a great soup & sandwich place with amazing breakfast food, check out The Last Bite The Last Bite is located at 103 Main Street in High Falls, NY.
