The Dutch colonialists, sturdy folk who created durable and rare beauties in their stone structures, were some of the first non-indigenous people to settle in this area. Stone homes can be found in Hurley NY, Kingston, Stone Ridge NY, and New Paltz! Many of these homes are historic landmarks and on national registries. Dutch heritage is strong in Ulster County and the Dutch influence can still be seen all over, from the unique local names to the everlasting stone architecture!
