FullSizeRender.jpgThe hamlet of Highland, NY is pretty consistent. Businesses making up the small area most folks would consider ‘Main Street’ (actually Vineyard Avenue, where all the parades, street festivals and town events occur) hasn't changed too much over the years. Sal’s Place has been the cornerstone bar that has been a fixture of Highland’s main drag for decades, as has the barber shop located next door and Elia’s Meat Market, and while other restaurants may have slowly come and gone, the sleepy hamlet has always had a pizza place (or two), a Chinese takeout, and generally, the same local clientele who tend to frequent them.

Over the years though, and with Highland getting more foot traffic from tourists and other Ulster County residents alike from the opening…

In today’s world there is a never-ending need to ‘go green’ in pretty much any and every aspect of people’s day to day lives. Going green not only helps to protect and save our environment, but in many cases, where it pertains to housing and real estate related ventures, going green also has the potential to save you money in the long run.

Going Green

Going green has been, and continues to be, a hot topic in the real estate industry. Other than helping to protect our environment, the movement towards using more environmentally friendly building techniques and practices also has the potential to save homeowners a big chunk on their utility bills- if they even have to pay for utilities at all! In fact, as of this spring, we are lucky enough to say…

For not being in a major city, The Hudson Valley is a bit spoiled when it comes to the mouth watering culinary options that are available to us. We live in an area that hosts and teaches, some of the best chefs in the world (thank you Culinary Institute of America!) so it’s no surprise that there is an abundance of award winning restaurants from which we can choose to eat at and expand our culinary palettes far beyond the reaches of Ulster County, NY.

The Daily Freeman, Kingston’s news source, published an article earlier this year about uptown Kingston’s “restaurant renaissance” and how 2015’s positive year end has everyone optimistic about a successful 2016. We were inspired by the article, (and by the awesome food at these restaurants!) to compile a…

Parts of the Hudson Valley, specifically locations in Ulster County, are drawing Brooklynites in record numbers- so much so, that the Hudson Valley has even been referenced as the “New Brooklyn.”  This seems to be happening more and more since the NYT article was published about NYC renters choosing to buy a second home first before buying their primary home in the city.  it makes sense if you think about;  this new generation of buyers are realizing that they may just be better off renting in Manhattan and then purchasing the more affordable digs upstate.  Why not buy in the Catskills if that’s really your ultimate lifestyle?  We’re seeing baby boomers looking to come back to more urban settings since their net worths make it possible and the…

noname1_400_01Clients and customers often ask me how the market is doing. They also tend to ask about where home values are at today. Compared to 5-6 years ago, I’d of course say the market is down quite a bit. The good news however is that things are definitely improving. The Ulster County real estate market, Highland NY in particular, is just one of a handful of local markets to see a surge in buyer activity. In Taft Street realty’s latest market update, we wanted to share two recently sold homes in Ulster County NY to give you a better idea of what’s selling right now and where Highland NY home values are at this spring.
