Accord NY Real Estate
The hamlet of Accord is a rarity: A bona fide, well-kept secret. That catch phrase, I find, is badly overused in the real estate profession, but Accord deserves it – and not just because it's one of my personal favorites, either.

Homes in Accord
Start with the fact that Accord, population still comfortably under 1,000, is relatively unknown to most out-of-towners, who are inevitably surprised at the local pronunciation (ACK-cord, not a-CORD). Add to that the fact that on a map, Accord looks like a simple "pass through" hamlet divided by route 209 on the way from Stone Ridge to Kerhonkson, and its relative obscurity is understandable.
Located where the Rondout and Peters Kill Creeks meet, Accord real estate conveniently borders the relative hotspots of Stone Ridge and High Falls, as well as butting up to the spectacular cliffs of the Shawangunk Mountains and the academic and cultural Mecca of New Paltz. And to top it off, while neighboring Stone Ridge and High Falls are overseen by the town of Marbletown, Accord is officially in the Town of Rochester with its traditionally lower taxes. And the price range of available homes in Accord is often broader than in some other areas of Ulster County.
Things to See and Do in Accord
For many, a home in Accord means the best of both worlds. The area is still rich in working farmland, yet thanks to a little-known web of shortcut roads, New York City is less than two hours away, unusually convenient for a location on the western side of Mohonk Mountain. Lake Mohonk and the renowned, lavish, and sophisticated Mohonk Mountain House hotel are just a short drive, and if you're going all the way to New Paltz and Gardiner to the south, you can hop on the breathtaking Clove Valley Road, one of the narrowest and most gorgeous arteries in the county. Driving Clove Valley is as close to "car hiking" as you can get, as you "trek" through preserved lands leading to some of the best rock climbing in the country – the Shawangunks, known to insiders as "The Gunks."
But small as it appears, Accord, one of the gateways into the Catskill State Park, offers plenty of essentials beyond the natural beauty of its many small creeks, streams, and brooks. Rondout Valley High School is here, and Skate Time, a new fun spot for kids, has recently opened. The Rondout Valley Campgrounds are nearby, and Saunderskill Farm Market can put the fruits of local agriculture on your dinner table all summer long.
Real estate in Accord is a rare combination: small, but still offering all the basics. For sheer convenience, it's a hard location to equal.
