If you were to ask someone what the best thing about Ulster County is (we know it’s pretty tough to pick just one thing, but let's just say, for arguments sake…) we’re pretty sure that an overwhelming majority would agree that the natural features and scenic beauty of Ulster County is what makes it such a marvelous place. The natural beauty of the Hudson River Valley and the Catskills has been written about for hundreds of years, most notably by famous 19th century naturalist and author, John Burroughs. Burroughs wrote this on his view from the Slide Mountain summit in “The Heart of the Southern Catskills”…

The Ulster County NY Legislature recently changed the location of an upcoming meeting so that it would be literally right down the hall from a NY State DEC public hearing on releasing turbid water from the Ashokan Reservoir. Changing the location of this meeting ensures that Ulster County lawmakers will be in the building and present for this public hearing, which discusses giving permits to allow for even more releases of turbid water into the Lower Esopus Creek. The events surrounding the June 19th meetings are an interesting example of some of the local political jousting that is occurring with regards to this controversial issue.
Memorial Day Weekend 2012 will be a time to honor and remember our fallen soldiers and veterans. It's also a great weekend to catch up with family and those we care about.
