The Daily Freeman, Kingston’s news source, published an article earlier this year about uptown Kingston’s “restaurant renaissance” and how 2015’s positive year end has everyone optimistic about a successful 2016. We were inspired by the article, (and by the awesome food at these restaurants!) to compile a…

the Walkill RiverAhoy there! When you hear the word "regatta" it may conjure up images of million dollar sail boats and funny boat shoes. The New Paltz Regatta, though certainly a regatta by definition, may not be the haughty affair you'd expect. It features wacky boats, live music, a town parade, and free ice cream! We'd prefer that to the typical Regatta any day, and the 2012 New Paltz Regatta this weekend did not disappoint! The sun was shining and it was a beautiful day as contestants braved the mighty Wallkill River on hand-made boats, colorful rafts, and even a floating house or two! Fun, homegrown events like these, that seem to pop up every weekend, are part of what make New Paltz one of our picks for the Coolest Ulster County Towns in 2012.

If you're out and about running errands on a cold November morning, few things offer more comfort than a hot cup of fresh coffee and maybe a warm bagel or roll. Such were my thoughts recently as I shuffled into The Last Bite in High Falls, NY. It was an early, cold, and so far coffee-less morning, so I was in need of some quality nourishment. I'm always looking for great local spots to eat in the Hudson Valley, and I had heard good things about The Last Bite. I stepped up to the old-time storefront, with an aged hanging sign swinging in the wind, reminiscent of an era long past.
